Venom, also known as the Lethal Protector, is a black symbiote from Klyntar who helped overthrow his creator, Knull, as well as the father of Carnage. Taken from his home planet by Life Foundation, alongside a team decided to invade Earth, Venom was labelled as "SYM-A01". Venom eventually met investigative journalist Eddie Brock, with whom he formed a symbiotic relationship. Combined with Brock, Venom managed to defeat the symbiote Riot and its host, Life Foundation CEO Carlton Drake, in a battle to save Earth. Since then, he and Brock dedicated to protecting the innocent, becoming known as "Venom" in San Francisco.
In time, Venom was fully accustomed to Earth's norms, but became distant from his host due to wanting freedom to eat more criminals, eventually separating from Eddie Brock. Soon after, he and Brock re-bonded and faced the threat of Cletus Kasady, a serial killer who bonded with a new symbiote called Carnage, spawned from Venom itself, and his wife Frances Barrison, known as Shriek due to her supersonic scream. After a brutal fight, Venom devoured Carnage and Cletus before being forced to flee with Eddie after the authorities discovered Eddie's connection to Venom. While on the run, Venom and Eddie were temporarily transported to another universe due to a botched spell by a sorcerer from that same universe, where they learned about several superheroes of that universe before being sent back to their own, but not before a piece of Venom was left behind.
Realizing that the search for Eddie was spreading across the planet, Venom and Eddie decided to embark on a journey to New York City to have a judge clear Eddie's name, but were pursued by Rex Strickland's military squad and the Xenophages, who were sent by Knull to obtain Venom's Codex and break free from his prison. While traveling, Venom was unable to fully transform for fear of the Xenophages' attacks, but was able to do so to protect Eddie. Upon being captured in Area 55, Venom and Eddie allied themselves with Strickland's squad and a group of captured symbiotes to kill the Xenophages and prevent Knull's return. To prevent the creatures from regenerating, Venom decided to sacrifice himself, absorbing the Xenophages to be bathed in acid and die with them, saying goodbye to Eddie, presumably dying in front of his best friend, and protecting the planet from Knull.
Venom was created by Knull on Klyntar, along with many other Symbiotes, and later helped the rest of his kind in imprisoning their creator. He was considered to be sort of a loser by his species, but was still allowed to join Riot and several other symbiotes on a quest to invade planets by finding ideal hosts and devouring their populations; as well as escaping from their creator, who they remained fearful of despite his imprisonment.[2][3]
Venom and three other symbiotes were found on Klyntar by Life Foundation astronauts. Later, something went wrong and the LF1 crashed in Malaysia. Three of the four symbiotes (including Venom) were recovered from the wreckage, while Riot managed to escape.[2]
Testing on Homeless[]
Former Life Foundation CEO Carlton Drake used various homeless people to test the Symbiote on real hosts to see how long they will survive inside the organs. Then, on one particular patient he gave out a speech about how the world must "change" before he opens the symbiote and kills the patient.[2]

When Eddie Brock infiltrated into the Life Foundation and started taking photos of evidence inside the facility, Eddie encountered his friend Maria and tried to break her out until an alarm went off. Breaking out of her capsule, Venom as Maria attacked Eddie and bonded with him, Venom helped Eddie as he was running away from the Life Foundation Security by hiding on a tree.

Brock then goes home and hears Venom's voice in his head but just brushes it off as if he has a paranoia. The next day, Eddie visited Anne Weying who was on a date with Dan Lewis inside a restaurant, and he wanted to talk about Drake but was heavily distracted by Venom's hunger and wanted to eat a lobster alive. Eddie went to hospital and gets examined in an MRI by Dan but was interrupted by the sound waves that were hurting Venom and decided to leave with Dan asking him to come back if he's ready. Back into his home, Brock was called by Weying and Lewis about the test results, and Brock explained that he was feeling unwell and hearing a voice, but Venom interrupted their conversation. Venom eventually grew crazed, wishing for the symbiote to leave his body. All of a sudden, Eddie accidentally let Venom come through, scaring his neighbor Ziggy, who agreed to turn his music down.[2]
Later, after Brock took out some tater tots, Venom warned him not to open the front door as he sensed danger: However, when some of Carlton Drake's men came to his door, looking to acquire the symbiote, it helped him fend them off. Eddie made a run for it, coming to realize what was inside of him. Eddie hopped on a motorcycle, slowly getting away from the thugs with Venom's help, only to be hit by a black car. When Roland Treece hopped out, the symbiote took over Eddie's body, enveloping him and lifted Treece up off the ground.

After expressing his desire to consume Treece and eat him, Venom was shot by another thug, resulting in him turning around and biting the man's head off, before being shot by the police. Venom swam away, before disappearing back into Eddie. Eddie noticed he recovered from his injuries, as soon as he acknowledged Venom, the symbiote then appeared from him. Eddie seemed disgusted by Venom eating someone, to which Venom replied it was "fuel in the tank" and that the symbiotes had found a species to bond with.[2]
After not getting admitted into Brock's old workplace, the two break into the building so that Eddie could turn in evidence of Drake's crimes, with Venom commenting that he was growing fond of Eddie. Due to Brock's fear of heights, he decides to leave the building using the elevator, but after reaching the first floor, he found a whole SWAT team pointing their guns at him, after warning the team, Venom started to attack them and even tried to eat one of the police men until Eddie stopped him. The attack is witnessed by Anne Weying, whom Eddie later explains his current situation.

Anne takes Eddie to the hospital in order to look into the symbiote. Concerned by Anne in her car, Eddie tried to explain what had happened to him, with Venom prompting Eddie to apologize to her for his selfish actions. Once in the hospital, Anne and Dan told Eddie that Venom was slowly killing him, which resulted in Venom attacking Dan, but Anne used the ultrasound of the hospital to force Venom off from Eddie. Eddie and Venom both felt excruciating pain while hearing the hyperactive sound, resulting in the two being separated.[2]
Feeling betrayed, Brock angrily abandoned Venom and tried to leave the hospital. Venom then escaped through the ventilation and bonded itself with a dog, walking though the hospital he sees how Brock got captured by Roland Treece and his men. Venom, as the dog, reached for Weying and informed her of the situation.
Deciding to go rescue Brock, Venom bonded itself with Weying and the two follow Treece's men. They arrived at the woods where Brock was going to be executed by Treece and his men, they stealthily grabbed and took down the two thugs behind Treece with their tentacles. She-Venom then attacked Treece from behind and bit his head off. Venom then made Anne grab and kiss Eddie while bonding Venom back to Eddie's body. The symbiote informed Eddie about Riot and transformed him back into Venom, the two went to fight alone leaving Anne behind as it was too dangerous for her.[2]
Venom goes and stops Riot from getting inside the space shuttle, Riot told Venom to get into the rocket, to which Venom said that they wouldn't let the world be destroyed by him. The two fought, with Riot ripping Venom off of Eddie Brock, when Venom and Riot fused with each other, Anne Weying uses the loudspeakers of the space shuttle station to separate them.
When Riot re-bonded with Carlton Drake and impaled Eddie through the chest, leaving him for dead, Riot boarded the rocket, but Venom returned and resurrected Eddie, saving him and healing the impalement wound, however creating a Codex. Venom then takes out Riot's arm-blade and then leaps onto the rocket, as Riot sees this and angrily calls Venom a "traitor". Venom mockingly tells Riot to "have a nice life", as Venom fell and used Riot's arm-blade to puncture the rocket's fuel-tanks and fuel line, cutting it open, and causing the rocket's liquid fuel to spill out, which contacts the burning (and superheated) engines and its exhaust plume, and causing the fuel to ignite, the engines to be prematurely cutoff, and the rocket's fuel tanks to explode and its hull to rupture from the ignited fuel, turning it into a massive fireball, leaving both Riot and his host to burn to their deaths, and saving Eddie before being burned by the fire.[2]

After the crimes of the Life Foundation were exposed. Eddie was rehired and offered to make a special edition on Carlton. Eddie told Anne that he won't be back on screen and decided to write articles. Anne told Eddie that the kiss before was Venom's idea, and that Dan must not know about it. Eddie was surprised by the Anne's comment about their kiss but was mistaken for being bonded by Venom, to which Eddie agreed about the power and how it wasn't completely awful.
Venom distracted Eddie about the fact that she doesn't know that he survived the fire and Anne noticed that Eddie wasn't listening. Eddie then walked away and expresses his farewell. When Eddie stumbled upon a dog owner, Venom commented on eating his dog. Settling down some ground rules, Eddie lectured Venom about how people are good and bad and that he should only touch, harm, hurt, and possibly eat very bad individuals, to which Venom questions to know how one tells the difference, with Eddie responding with just seeing and sensing it.[2]

In fact, you go anywhere in the city, preying on innocent people and we will find you, and eat both of your arms, and then both of your legs, and then we will eat your face right off your head. Do you understand?" "Please..." " Yes. So you will be this armless, legless, faceless thing, won't you, going down the street like a turd in the wind! Do you feel me?" "What the hell are you?" "We... are Venom."
Feeling Venom's hunger, Eddie went to Mrs. Chen's convenience store, greeting her and telling her how he was doing. While deciding what to eat before Venom would eat his liver, they decided on buying tater tots and maybe some chocolate, much to Venom's delight. However, a robber showed up to collect his money but was disappointed again from Mrs. Chen's uncooperative behavior and proceeded to aim a gun at her. Eddie noticed the robber and Venom asked if he was a bad guy, to which Eddie confirmed.
As Mrs. Chen was getting the money, Eddie and Venom decided to subdue the robber and ate him alive. After consuming the robber for his crime, Chen horrifyingly told Eddie of what had happened to him. Eddie responded that he has a parasite and said bye to Mrs. Chen. Venom angrily expressed his hatred of being called a parasite and told Eddie to apologize. Eddie apologized to Venom and asked what they should do next, to which Venom replied that they could do whatever they want.[2]
Meeting Cletus Kasady[]
"I need you to stay quiet. This is a "me" thing, It is not a "we" thing. You got that?" "Fine, but make it quick."
When his host Eddie was scheduled to have an interview with an incarcerated serial killer named Cletus Kasady, who asked to be interviewed by him. They both went on Eddie's motorcycle to San Quentin State Prison and Eddie told the symbiote to be quiet as this was his thing, something to which he agreed to as long as he made it quick. Thus, he did not talk during Eddie's interaction with the serial killer, though he was there when Cletus he mentioned that he planned to break out of prison and unleash carnage upon the world.[2]

One year after their battle with Riot, Venom began feeling resentful towards Eddie for not letting it prey on the city's criminals as he promised, forcing it to subsist on eating chickens or chocolate. During a meeting between Eddie and Detective Patrick Mulligan of the SFPD, where they tried to get Eddie to interview Kasady once again, Venom attempted to eat the police officer for insulting Eddie but its host stopped it, prompting a heated argument between them.
As Eddie reluctantly interviewed Cletus once again, Venom alerted its host of the carvings on the inside of Cletus' cell. That same night Venom used the carvings and clues presented during the interview to uncover the location where Cletus had buried the bodies of his victims. This discovery managed not only to boost Eddie's reputation and career as an investigative reporter, but also made the authorities officially give Cletus the death penalty for his crimes.[1]
"Eddie I apologize that I can't mend the heart, emotional pain hits much harder and it lasts longer. You just need to pull up your big boy pants and take it."
Despite their success, Venom was still angry at Eddie for refusing their suggestion to become vigilantes and eat bad guys, prompting another argument between the two. Upon later finding that the chocolate they ordered from Mrs. Chen hadn't arrived yet, Venom attempted to eat a mugger that they found attacking a woman, but Eddie stopped it, leaving Venom to reluctantly raid a chicken farm in order to satisfy its hunger instead.

After receiving a call from Anne Weying to meet up with Eddie, Venom assumed she had been dumped by Dr. Dan Lewis and was looking to hook back up with Eddie. Venom made sure to prepare Eddie for their meeting with Anne only for her to tell Eddie that she and Dan were engaged, this infuriated the symbiote who inadvertently revealed to Anne that it indeed survived the battle with Riot. This announcement made Eddie go into suicidal depression, to which Venom attempted to comfort him and cheer him up as best as it could. The next day, Eddie received an invitation from Cletus to speak with him and watch his execution.[1]

Despite Venom advising Eddie to not met with Cletus one last time before his execution, they went to talk to him anyway. When Kasady angrily taunted Eddie during their conversation by mentioning his deceased mother, Venom attacked Cletus in anger which resulted in the serial killer biting Eddie's hand and instead of getting blood, the serial killer got an offspring of the Venom symbiote.
This attack resulted in them getting thrown out of the prison by the guards, with Eddie angry that they couldn't get any more clues for the missing bodies due to Venom's actions. This prompted another arguement between Venom and Eddie that escalated into a fight with its host, with Venom throwing Eddie's television out the window and Eddie expelling the symbiote from his body using a smoke alarm. With the symbiote bonding to random civilians while abandoning Eddie's apartment.[1]

As the symbiote bonded to a passing homeless man, Venom continued jumping from host to host, eventually arriving at a rave where it was mistaken for a costume by the partygoers. At the party Venom took center stage and delivered an impassioned speech berating Eddie for being ashamed of it and speaking out against the cruel treatment of aliens - the crowd cheering due to thinking it's talking about being in a closeted gay relationship and the rights of undocumented migrants. After the speech, Venom went to an ally and lamented that Eddie hadn't been there to see it. Venom then made used different hosts to make its way to Mrs. Chen's shop, bonding to her and discovering she was a compatible host.[1]
When Eddie Brock was arrested and interrogated by Detective Patrick Mulligan, he sent Anne Weying and Dan Lewis to look for Venom. At first the symbiote refused to help Brock, despite being informed that Brock had been arrested and that Cletus Kasady escaped prison by using another symbiote. Weying later managed to appeal to Venom's ego in order to coax the symbiote into bonding to her once again so that they could rescue Brock from the police station. Venom then agreed to bond with Brock again after he delivered a humiliating apology. As the two went to search for Cletus and Frances Barrison, they were contacted by Dan, who told them that Anne had been captured by Cletus and Frances, and taken to Grace Cathedral.[1]
Venom arrived at the cathedral ready to fight, but the symbiote panicked after seeing what Carnage looked like and retracted into Eddie Brock's body. Despite suggesting leaving Anne Weying to her fate, Eddie convinced Venom to come out by promising that he'll let it eat whoever it wanted. Venom fought Carnage, but the latter's superior shapeshifting abilities quickly overpowered its progenitor, Venom and Eddie were about to loose the fight until they were saved by Dr. Lewis who dumped burning gasoline into Carnage.
The symbiote then recovered and managed to stop Carnage from eating Dan, as they kept fighting Venom was forced to retract into Eddie's body after Carnage used the cathedral church bell. As Cletus Kasady gravely injured Eddie, he and Venom were pinned under rubble by the serial killer while Carnage grabbed Anne and carried her to the peak of the cathedral, pausing to attack Frances Barrison when she begged Cletus to stop. Venom told Eddie that it didn't have enough strength to beat Carnage, but he and its host saw how Cletus was fighting against Carnage to protect his lover and Venom realized that despite their fights, its bond to Eddie was superior to their enemies.
The symbiote recovered and broke free from the rubble, scaling the cathedral, impaling Carnage through the head with a chunk of pipe and saving Anne despite enduring multiple stabbings from Carnage in the process. Before Carnage could devour them, Venom knocked Shriek off the edge of the belltower's interior and her dying scream separated both symbiotes from their hosts. Venom managed to re-bond to Eddie mid-fall and saved him. Venom then devoured Carnage before it could bond to Cletus again, stating Carnage didn't taste good. The symbiote also bit Kasady's head off and tossed his body aside.[1]
Becoming Fugitives[]

"Where will we go?" "I don't know. I don't know. Anywhere that needs a Lethal Protector, I suppose."
Realizing that they would be hunted by the authorities, who were now aware of Eddie Brock's connection to Venom, Venom offered to leave Eddie so that he could return to his normal life and be absolved of the crimes, but Eddie refused and instead decided that the two went on the run together as fugitives. The two went "on vacation" to a tropical island, with Venom being overjoyed when Eddie agreed to its earlier suggestion of becoming a vigilante superhero.[1]
Going into hiding, Venom and Eddie Brock went to a tropical beach and stayed at an apartment overlooking it. The two spent time on the beach looking at the ocean and establishing a good relationship. That night, in the room, Venom told Eddie that he could show him more of his abilities, including knowledge of other universes. However, before he could, a yellow blinding light caught them off-guard. When the light dissipated, they found themselves in a different room and it being daytime outside. Venom told Eddie that he didn't do that, much to his confusion.
They then watched the television which had a news channel on showing J. Jonah Jameson from The Daily Bugle speaking on how Peter Parker was Spider-Man. When Parker was shown, Venom seemed interested and licked the screen. The bathroom door then opened and a man walked in and asked what Venom was doing in his room. Venom then hid and Brock told the man he didn't know, still confused to the fact that they had been transported to another universe.[1]
Later, Venom was getting drunk with Eddie Brock at a bar in that universe, learning about the heroes and threats in it, just before they were returned back due to the correction of a magic spell.[4][3]
Meanwhile, Knull decides to find Venom's Codex, suggesting this is the key that could free him from his prison. With this task, he sends the Xenophages into Earth to capture the symbiote. After returned into their universe, Eddie and Venom still on the run due to Patrick Mulligan's "death". Not known to either of them, the Xenophages has begun tracking Eddie and Venom. The recent events catch the attention of Rex Strickland, a commander of the Imperium, an organization that collects other symbiotes which fallen to Earth. Mulligan, having survived his encounter with Carnage, is bonded with another symbiote after the previous symbiote left him for dead, and questioned by Imperium researchers Dr. Teddy Paine and Sadie Christmas to learn about the symbiotes' purpose on Earth before Strickland is ordered to bring Venom down.
While attaching themselves onto the side of an airplane bound for New York City, Eddie and Venom are attacked by the Xenophage tracking them and are forced to drop off into a desert field. Later on, Venom explains to Eddie that Xenophages were unleashed into the universe by Knull, the creator of the symbiotes, to retrieve a "Codex" forged when a symbiote resurrects its host.
This can free Knull from the prison. Because Venom revived Eddie once before, he now carries a Codex that the Xenophage tracked to Earth.
Venom is attacked
After being ambushed by Strickland and his team while barely escaping from them and the Xenophage, Eddie meets Martin Moon and his family of traveling hippie and alien enthusiasts who offer him a ride to Las Vegas on their way to Area 51.
Meanwhile, Mulligan's new symbiote informs Strickland of Knull's intentions with the Codex, which can only be destroyed if either Eddie or Venom dies. Arriving in Las Vegas, Eddie and Venom run into Mrs. Chen at a casino and Venom shares a dance with her before being ambushed by the Xenophage again.
Strickland's team arrives, separates Venom from Eddie and takes them to Area 51 where Eddie reunites with Mulligan. Sadie frees Venom who rebonds with Eddie before Strickland plans to execute him.
This attracts the Xenophage to the base, killing Mulligan and Toxin. Venom releases the other confined symbiotes, which bond with Sadie and other hosts to fight off the Xenophage, who has signaled to Knull that the Codex has been found. Knull sends more Xenophages through portals to Earth, overwhelming the symbiotes.
Realizing he must sacrifice himself to destroy the Codex and save the universe, Venom separated from Eddie and assimilated the Xenophages, then dragged them into acid to kill them. General Rex Strickland, sacrificing himself, exploded the Symbiote, seemingly killing Venom and destroying the Codex and thusly interrupting Knull's plan for liberation.[3]
Payne bonds with a symbiote to save Sadie from the explosion while Eddie falls unconscious as the base burns. Eddie later wakes up in a hospital, where a military official informs Eddie that his actions with Venom at Area 51 have earned him a pardon, under the condition of keeping the events that transpired a secret. Arriving in New York City, Eddie gazes at the Statue of Liberty while remembering Venom.
After the destruction of Area 51 and the apparent death of Venom, a black cockroach crawled next to the test tube that sampled Venom.

Initially, Venom was a manipulative being who showed little or no consideration for human life and was apparently concerned only with satisfying his hunger. Characterized by a unique blend of aggressive determination, humor, loyalty, and complexity, Venom was perceived as a "loser" among his species, driving his assertiveness and desire to prove himself. His early alignment with Riot and other symbiotes on a quest to invade planets highlights his predatory nature and ambition. However, upon bonding with Eddie Brock, Venom's personality begins to reveal more layers.
Venom's aggressive tendencies are a core aspect of his character. His survival instincts are evident from his initial quest to find a suitable host to sustain himself, and he is not shy about using violence to achieve his goals. Venom's enjoyment of fighting and his sadistic sense of humor persist even as his relationship with Eddie evolves. This aggression is particularly prominent in his confrontations with threats, such as Drake's mercenaries or the battle against Carnage. Venom's brutal methods, including biting off Cletus Kasady's head and consuming Carnage, underscore his lethal and predatory instincts.
Despite his inherent aggression, Venom exhibits a dark humor and sarcasm that add levity and relatability to his interactions with Eddie, providing a counterbalance to his violent tendencies. His witty and sardonic comments during investigations and arguments with Eddie reveal his sharp wit.
Venom's interactions with Eddie and others also show glimpses of a moral compass influenced by Eddie's humanity. Venom gradually accepts Eddie's rules about only harming or consuming "bad" individuals, leading to humorous yet revealing conflicts. This struggle to reconcile his inherent nature with new ethical boundaries showcases Venom's ability to adapt and grow. Venom's relationship with Eddie serves as a catalyst for his evolution as a person. Initially, their bond is tumultuous, with Venom often asserting control while Eddie struggles to adapt. Over time, however, a mutual dependency forms, and Venom's loyalty to Eddie grows. This loyalty is tested and ultimately reaffirmed when Venom insists on an apology from Eddie before reuniting to fight Carnage. Venom's protective nature is further highlighted by his commitment to defeating Carnage and protecting Anne when she is kidnapped. His willingness to face danger for those he cares about demonstrates his deepening bond with Eddie. Venom slowly begins to display generally positive qualities after seeing Eddie's good nature and learning about his past, even becoming more civilized, as shown when he prepares breakfast for Eddie and greets Mrs. Chen. He also seems to be a little emotional and stubborn when Eddie talked him down and didn't want to go back to Eddie until he apologized. He appears to appreciate humanity and rebels against his former leader to save Earth and his friends, claiming that the planet "wasn't that bad". Venom has also developed a soft spot for Anne Weying and seems to agree with Eddie that he should only have killed criminals and not innocent people.
Venom and Eddie have a complex relationship. While the two are generally friendly towards each other and seem comfortable around each other, they are prone to bickering. Their arguments and temporary separation reveal the tension between Venom's desire for freedom and Eddie's need for control. Venom's tantrum in the apartment, where he throws things out the window, exemplifies his impulsive and rebellious streak. However, their reconciliation, facilitated by Anne, shows that despite their differences, their bond is essential for their survival. Venom and Eddie worked together to fight crime in the shadows in New York City, with Venom adopting the mantle of "Lethal Protector."
While navigating the emotional complexities of his relationship with Eddie, Venom makes a speech at the Halloween party advocating for better treatment of aliens, reflecting a growing self-awareness and desire for acceptance. This moment indicates Venom's adaptation to life on Earth and his understanding of societal norms, albeit in a humorous and exaggerated manner.
Venom is at first fully prepared to face Carnage, but backs down upon seeing his size, and is only motivated to fight him once Eddie allows him to eat everyone in the Grace Cathedral Venom's willingness to fight Carnage and Save Anne, despite the dangers, highlights his heroic qualities. His ultimate victory over Carnage and Kasady, and his decision to go into hiding with Eddie, demonstrate a sense of responsibility and commitment to protecting their world. Venom's actions show that he is not just a mindless predator but a being capable of significant sacrifices for the greater good. Venom can also be selfless at times, offering to leave Eddie so that so that he would not be pursued by the police and return to his normal life.

Symbiotic Physiology: Venom is an amorphous, extraterrestrial being of black biomass, that affords its host several superhuman attributes once symbiosis is achieved. As a result of its symbiosis with Eddie Brock, his physical attributes (such as strength, durability, speed, agility and healing) are enhanced to superhuman levels. Venom can cover the hostās body in its own biomass; affording the host a number of superhuman abilities, however, the symbiote can be used as a weapon while its host is in human form. Most of these powers Venom can also use without the need for a host before the lack of one weakens the symbiote.
Superhuman Strength:

Even while not fully covering its host, Venom can give Eddie enough strength to take down security guards, create a crack on a wall when jumping on it, easily kick open metal doors, destroy fences and break thick logs. After covering its host with its biomass, Venom can give its host an immense physical force, making them capable of picking up and throw away multiple humans with ease, heavily damage cars by jumping on them, destroy pillars, easily break through the walls of a police station and destroy part of a rocket booster with Riot's spear. Even when fighting Riot, a symbiote Venom itself believed to be stronger, the Lethal Protector was able to push Riot into the ground and kick it during their fight, being only overwhelmed due to the symbiote's ability to create weapons and other constructs. Venom was later able to contend with the more vicious Carnage, exchanging punches with its offspring and even sometimes being able to throw Carnage around or restrain him.
Superhuman Durability: The Venom symbiote is superhumanly strong and durable. It is able to withstand multiple gunfire from SWAT officers, high-velocity impacts, as well as lethal attacks from other symbiotes such as Riot and was able to continue its fight with Carnage despite being stabbed multiple times by the symbiote. Venom was also able to survive the explosion of the Life Foundation rocket despite being engulfed in flames, one of its weaknesses, and survived a fall from at least 174 feet after its brutal fight with Carnage.
Superhuman Speed: Venom is able to move at extremely high-speeds this enables its host to run and move incredibly fast; as Eddie was able to easily outpace several security officers, and escape pursuers from the Life Foundation by quickly scaling a tree. Venom is able to quickly run across rooftops and scale up the sides of buildings, and is fast enough to swiftly catch up to and dispatch enemies, even when they are in vehicles.
Superhuman Agility: Venom is extremely agile, it possesses exceptional speed and athleticism that enables its host to preform acrobatic and gymnastic stunts. Venom is able to quickly scale vertical surfaces, leap tremendous heights and distances, and can dodge projectiles from multiple assailants; Venom displayed tremendous speed and reflexes when it avoided projectiles Carnage hurled at bullet speed.

Venom demonstrates exceptional awareness of its surrounding, notably being able to sense nearby threats before its host could. This was seen when Venom uses its tentacles to attack opponents from any direction, despite the fact that Eddie was not aware of the threat. Venom is also fast enough to enable its host to dodge bullets, as well as catch a tear gas grenade that was fired at them. During its fights with Riot and Carnage, the symbiote was able to dodge many of their attacks.
Superhuman Senses: Venom possesses superhuman sensory awareness, as demonstrated when Drake's mercenaries arrived to retrieve the symbiote from Eddie, and Venom told him seconds before not to open the door. The Venom symbiote is also hyper-aware of its surroundings, as it could detect assailants from multiple directions, despite facing the opposite way.
Regenerative Healing Factor:

Venom is able to rapidly repair its host body from even the most severe of injuries in mere seconds, from ruptured organs to broken bones. This allowed its host Eddie Brock to almost instantly recover from being hit by a van at high-speed and having much of his body broken, as well as bring him back from the brink of death after he had been impaled by Riot. Even without a host, Venom can regenerate himself from the smallest piece of mass, provided that he has sufficient nourishment to do so, as seen when the symbiote recovered some time after sacrificing most of itself to protect Eddie. Venom was able to regenerate its teeth after Eddie broke them. However, Venom itself was fatigued when it was repeatedly impaled by Carnage, greatly reducing its mobility.
Possession: As a symbiote, Venom has been shown to be able to transfer itself from host to host upon physical contact with them, bonding to their flesh as if intangible and taking full control of their bodies. While in their bodies, Venom is able to enhance their physical abilities to inhuman levels, allowing them to overpower other humans with ease and heal from severe injuries such as broken bones and damaged tissue in seconds. While it is capable of seemingly suppressing a host's mind and use their bodies as if it were its own, it is able to psychically link with the host and work collectively with them while sharing the same body. The abilities it can use whilst bonded to its host, including its ability to manifest constructs out of its own mass and enveloping its host to form a body for itself, is fueled by how compatible it is with its host.
Shapeshifting: Venom can generate portions of itself out of Brock's body to form various constructs, including tendrils, shields, parachutes and various other appendages. It can also fully emerge from Brock while remaining attached to him, enveloping its host's body to form its own, complete with eyes, claws and a mouth with powerful jaws and sharp teeth, allowing it to tear flesh and eat off entire body parts from its victims. Its ability to manifest these constructs is fueled by how compatible it is with its host. The Symbiote notably uses tendrils for attack and defense, from grappling with Drake's guards, to pull Eddie back onto his motorcycle when he was flung through the air.

Venom can fully emerge from Brock while remaining attached to him, enveloping the host's body to form its own that akin to a malleable yet resilient sort of combat full-body suit, complete with eyes, claws and extendable, fanged mouth with a long, prehensile tongue. The "suit" uses its razor-sharp teeth and powerful jaws to tear through flesh and bone, allowing it to eat off entire body parts from its victims. Venom's full body-like suit emulates that of its human host's humanoid appearance, resulting in it having a humanoid shape despite it's more monstrous traits. In this form, Venom's physical superhuman attributes are at their peak, amplifying his strength, durability, speed, agility and reflexes far beyond that of normal humans' capacity, which its host can use at full effect. Venom can use its large, fanged maw to tear flesh and bone and absorb the symbiote that was spawned.
Genetic Memory: Venom is able to remember all the memories of all its hosts and can memorize anything just by looking, as demonstrated when Eddie enters Cletus Kasady's cell and Venom is able to memorize the drawings on the walls to find where the serial killer had hidden the bodies of his victims, despite only having a short time to memorize them, Venom was still able to recreate the drawings from Cletus' prison cell to near perfection.
Telepathy: Venom can communicate telepathically with its host.
Fangs: When it manifests its "head" or when it creates the suit, Venom also creates a series of sharp and apparently dirty teeth, which are capable of shredding and tearing flesh and bones. When Eddie Brock managed to shatter them by hitting them with his motorcycle helmet, Venom regenerated them soon after. It also allowed Venom to consume Carnage who tried to rejoin Kasady moments before its end.
Claws: When Venom creates the Symbiotic Suit, it also creates ten claws, each one placed on the fingertips of the hands, which allows it to cling to vertical surfaces and attack in close quarters.

Genius-Level Intellect: Venom possesses a great level of intelligence compared to most species on Earth, claiming to withhold 80-billion-light-years of hive-knowledge that expands across the Multiverse in its mind, which is also shared with all other members of its species.[5] Claiming that Eddie's human brain would not be able to withstand this level of knowledge, Venom seems to limit itself when bonded with its host, being left with an above average intelligence, which still allowed the symbiote to use the drawings from Cletus Kasady's cell to find where his hidden bodies were.
Skilled Tactician: Venom shows decent tactical skills in the heat of battle, as it was able to provoke Shriek by simply swatting her off the platform, so that her sonic scream would destabilize itself and Carnage, removing them from their hosts to leave Cletus vulnerable, later saving Eddie Brock by travelling from Anne Weying and Dan Lewis to the falling Brock, then use its own suit to break his fall.

The symbiote can use its unique set of abilities to efficiently and quickly take out huge groups of humans, be it regular thugs or a whole SWAT team in a matter of minutes. Venom also demonstrated advanced fighting abilities when going up against other symbiotes like Riot and Carnage, whose superior power made Venom showcase its level of skill, being able to kick, grab, punch and even throw around these members of its own species while also dodging and tanking some of their blows.
Weaknesses[]
Sonic Vibrations: As powerful as Venom is, he is vulnerable to extremely loud noise and even that of intense sonic vibrations as it drives the symbiote crazy.
Intense Heat: Aside from the intense noise that causes Venom to go crazy, he can also be injured through exposure to intense heat, such as from lasers, fire, etc.
Hunger: Because of his uncontrollable hunger, Venom must feed on living flesh to sustain himself, namely humans, or he'll eat the organs of his own host, namely humans. Small creatures, such as birds, chickens, dogs, cats, snakes and reptiles are not enough to sustain him.
Imperfect host: Venom is limited to its bond with hosts other than Eddie Brock. As such, they are unable to accept the symbiote's toxicity, which fatally takes them out no matter the amount of time used before death.
In the comics, Venom is a symbiote that came to Earth from the planet Klyntar and first bonded with Spider-Man. After that, it made its way through a variety of different hosts, most notably being Eddie Brock. After being bonded with Eddie, he became a supervillain and one of the greatest adversaries of Spider-Man. After teaming up with the latter as a way to defeat Carnage, Venom and Eddie became the anti-hero known as the Lethal Protector.
There were several concepts for Venom's design for the first movie. One of these concepts showed how Venom initially, instead of white veins, had to have a giant white V that had to cover its trunk from the belly to the pectorals.[7] Another concept, shows Venom with a monstrous and misshapen appearance similar to a real alien.[8] Some concepts show how the character must have had a rounder face, with bigger eyes and more pointed teeth.[9]
Venom was referred as "Antidote" while filming.[10]
