History[]
Arrest of Cletus Kasady[]
Cletus Kasady was imprisoned inside San Quentin State Prison after committing a series of murders. After his incarceration, he was to be sentenced to the death penalty.[1][2]
Interviewing Kasady[]
Eddie Brock was scheduled to have an interview with Cletus Kasady and asked him if he could cooperate to help the FBI to identify more potential bodies of his victims. After being ominously warned by one of the prison guards, Eddie goes to Cletus' cell, where he had already written with his own blood "Welcome Eddie". During the interview, Cletus told Eddie that they could forgo "the whole creepy serial killer thing" as he could turn the serial-killer act on and off whenever he wanted. Later on, Cletus asked a cautious Eddie to get closer to him, despite the guards' warnings and told him that he wouldn't tell him the locations of his other victims and that he planned to break out of prison, and once he did so, he would unleash "carnage" upon society.
Within the next year, Eddie continued to visit Cletus, as Eddie was the only one that Cletus would talk to. During one visit, Cletus insulted Eddie, provoking Venom into attacking. However, Cletus bit Eddie's hand, which leaked a bit of Venom and would spawn another Symbiote.[1][2]
Escape from San Quentin State Prison[]
On the night of Cletus Kasady's execution, the Carnage Symbiote awakened from within Cletus and went on a rampage across the prison, killing many of the guards and freeing the inmates.[2]
