In 1996, Frances Barrison was transferred from St. Estes Home for Unwanted Children to the institute due to having a supersonic screech, which was hardened to withstand her abilities, and nicknamed "Shriek" by the staff. During her time there, she was abused by Camille Pazzo, the head doctor of Ravencroft.[1]

Carnage infiltrating Ravencroft
Many years later, Frances Barrison was broken out by her childhood love interest, Cletus Kasady, who was bonded to the symbiote Carnage. The combined power of Carnage and Cletus overpowered the guards and killed many of the staff, including Dr. Pazzo. The two successfully escaped after the trio took out the authorities sent after them. After the breakout, police were sent to investigate the scene.[1]
