Lasher[1] was a symbiote captured in Area 55 who bonded with Sadie Christmas during the Xenophage assault on Area 51.
Biography[]
This section needs a rewrite |
At some point, a meteor crashed on Earth containing a small army of Symbiotes, such as Phage, Rascal, a White Symbiote, Toxin, Agony, Scorn, Flicker, Mayhem, and Sleeper. Lasher was captured with its siblings and imprisoned in Area 55, which is directly under the decommissioned Area 51. Like the rest of its fellow Symbiotes, a sample was likely taken from Lasher and contained.
When Venom and Eddie Brock are captured by General Rex Strickland to destroy the Codex that can free Knull, an Xenophage breaks into the base and attacks many soldiers to get to Venom. Lasher is seen when Teddy Paine and Sadie Christmas release all Symbiotes against the Xenophage. Lasher fuses with Sadie to fight the Xenophage along with her brothers and sisters. She is saddened by Phage’s death and his host by Strickland and explains him that the Symbiotes are not the true enemy. Near the end of the battle when more Xenophages arrive, Lasher is one of three Symbiotes still alive with Venom and Agony. She fights well, but a Xenophage uses its sonic powers to separate Sadie and Lasher and she is unfortunately killed by the Xenophage soon after. Sadie is horrified by her death.[2]
Personality[]
Lasher was seen to be heroic and selfless, risking its life to buy time for Venom and Eddie Brock to escape from an Xenophage. It is revealed it cared for its fellow Symbiotes and even their hosts, devastated when Phage and Jim were killed by Strickland. Lasher also willingly bonds with Sadie, who looked to the Symbiote in agreement to work together.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Symbiotic Physiology: Lasher is an amorphous, extraterrestrial being of greenish biomass. By achieving symbiosis, the Lasher Symbiote can afford its host several superhuman attributes, all of which are at their peak when the Symbiote envelopes the host in a sentient suit composed of the symbiote’s biomass. Symbiosis will afford the host superhuman levels of strength, durability, speed, agility and healing. Though it should be noted that, while in Area 55, Lasher along with the other Symbiotes started to deteriorate after not being bonded with a host for a period of time.
- Possession: Lasher could transfer itself from host to host upon physical contact with them, as it was able to go into Sadie Christmas’ flesh as if intangible.
- Superhuman Strength: Lasher could give the host tremendous superhuman strength; enabling the host to lift and exert far greater physical force. The Lasher Symbiote was able to hold off an Xenophage for a long time.
- Superhuman Agility: Those who are bonded to the Lasher Symbiote are extremely agile; their natural speed and agility enhanced to superhuman level, allowing them to quickly scale vertical surfaces, leap tremendous heights and distances, as well as being able to move on all fours with ease.
- Superhuman Durability: Lasher was able to take hits from an Xenophage several times.
- Superhuman Speed: The Lasher Symbiote can move at considerable superhuman speeds, allowing it and his host to move several feet per second, swiftly scale buildings, attack with more precision and brutality and move quickly on all fours.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Though both it and its host can be injured, the Lasher symbiote can heal both and its host at an accelerated rate.
- Shapeshifting: Lasher could shapeshift its limbs into weapons to deal more heavy damage to its enemies.
- Symbiotic Suit Manifestation: As with other symbiotes, the Lasher Symbiote has the basic ability to fully emerge from its host while still attached to him, enveloping its host's body to form its own as a sentient, malleable but durable suit complete with eyes, claws and a mouth with powerful jaws and sharp teeth while increases in mass, turning her into a powerful opponent.
Weaknesses[]
- Sonic Vibrations: As powerful as Lasher is, it is vulnerable to extremely loud noise and even that of intense sonic vibrations as it drives the Symbiote crazy. This was shown when an Xenophage used its sonic shriek to attack Lasher and cause it to separate from Sadie, resulting in the Symbiote’s unfortunate death.
- Intense Heat: Aside from the intense noise that disrupts Lasher, though it’s not shown, it can be assumed the Symbiote can be injured through exposure to intense heat, such as from lasers, fire, etc.
- Acid: Similar to the Xenophages and Venom, Lasher is presumably highly vulnerable to acid. Had Lasher been exposed to an extensive amount like Venom, she would’ve been washed away within seconds.
- Lack of Host: If Lasher isn’t bonded to a host for a long period of time, it will eventually die from starvation and no oxygen. This was the case with Dead Blue and Old Yeller, who both died of the same exact reasons.

Behind the Scenes[]
