Biography
This section needs a rewrite |
At some point a meteor crashed on Earth containing a small army of Symbiotes, such as Jim, Lasher, Lava, a White Symbiote, Toxin, Agony, Scorn, Flicker, Mayhem, and Sleeper. Jim was captured with its siblings and imprisoned in Area 55, which is directly under the decommissioned Area 51. Like the rest of its fellow Symbiotes, a sample was most likely taken from Jim and contained. When Venom and Eddie Brock are captured by General Rex Strickland to destroy the Codex that can free Knull, an Xenophage breaks into the base and attacks many soldiers to get to Venom. Jim is seen when Teddy Paine and Sadie Christmas release all Symbiotes against the Xenophage. Jim fuses with Jim, a security guard who was impaled. He fights well but he and his host are killed by Strickland with a bazooka, but not before telling Lasher to run away from the incoming explosion and xenophage. As a result, they are launched back onto the ground and Phage spills off of Jim. Unfortunately, the Xenophage survived. [2]
Personality
Not much of Jim's personality is known, though it seems to enjoy fighting, as it was seen slamming its fists together when released to battle an xenophage. When Strickland was about to kill Jim, it told Lasher to run. This shows that the Symbiote itself is selfless and willing to sacrifice its life for the sake of others.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Symbiotic Physiology: Phage is an amorphous, extraterrestrial being of orange/yellowish biomass. By achieving symbiosis, the Phage symbiote can afford its host several superhuman attributes, all of which are at their peak when the Symbiote envelopes the host in a sentient suit composed of the Symbiote’s biomass. Symbiosis will afford the host superhuman levels of strength, durability, speed, agility and healing. Though it should be noted that, while in Area 55, Phage along with the other Symbiotes started to deteriorate after not being bonded with a host for a period of time. It is also possible Phage might’ve not been at its strongest due to being forced to choose a host immediately after being freed, which would indicate the Symbiote and Jim were not fully compatible.
- Possession: Phage could transfer itself from host to host upon physical contact with them, as it was able to go into a security guard’s flesh as if intangible.
- Superhuman Strength: Phage could give the host tremendous superhuman strength; enabling the host to lift and exert far greater physical force. The Phage Symbiote was able to exert sufficient strength to break through walls. It was able to hold off an xenophage for a long time. Due to its unique form of shapeshifting, this must imply that Phage is physically stronger than many other Symbiotes.
- Superhuman Agility: Those who are bonded to the Phage Symbiote are extremely agile; their natural speed and agility enhanced to superhuman level, allowing them to quickly scale vertical surfaces, leap tremendous heights and distances, as well as being able to move on all fours with ease.
- Superhuman Durability: Phage was able to take hits from an Xenophage several times. Although this is true, Phage could not withstand being shot with a bazooka, resulting in the death of him and Jim.
- Superhuman Speed: The Phage Symbiote can move at considerable superhuman speeds, allowing it and his host to move several feet per second, swiftly scale buildings, attack with more precision and brutality and move quickly on all fours.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Though both it and its host can be injured, the Phage Symbiote can heal both and its host at an accelerated rate, as seen when Phage saved Jim from dying by the wrath of an Xenophage.
- Shapeshifting: Phage could shapeshift its limbs into weapons or even enlarge its fists to deal more heavy damage to its enemies.
- Symbiotic Suit Manifestation: As with other Symbiotes, the Phage Symbiote has the basic ability to fully emerge from its host Jim while still attached to him, enveloping its host's body to form its own as a sentient, malleable but durable suit complete with eyes, claws and a mouth with powerful jaws and sharp teeth while increasing in mass, turning him into powerful opponent.
Weaknesses
- Sonic Vibrations: Like all Symbiotes, Jim is vulnerable to extremely loud noise and even that of intense sonic vibrations.
- Intense Heat: Aside from the intense noise that disrupts Phage, he can also be injured through exposure to intense heat, such as from lasers, fire, etc. This was shown when Phage was shot with a bazooka by General Strickland, causing a massive explosion that sent the symbiote flying and spilling off of Jim's body as a result.
- Acid: Similar to the Xenophages and Venom, Phage is presumably highly vulnerable to acid. Had Phage been exposed to an extensive amount like Venom, he would've been washed away within seconds.
- Lack of Host: If Phage isn't bonded with a host for a long period of time, it will eventually die from starvation and no oxygen. This was the case with Dead Blue and Old Yeller, who both died of the same exact reasons.

- In the comics, Phage was created as one of five symbiote "children" forcefully spawned from the Venom symbiote along with Riot, Lasher, Agony and Scream.
