Jacob was a test subject for the Life Foundation.

Jacob was recruited by the Life Foundation in order to test if humans could combine with Symbiotes.
Jacob was tested by a certain blue symbiote that was bonded with him. Carlton Drake testified him of any symptoms by using ultrasound; however, he was greatly affected by them. He apparently survived four days before dying.[1]
