"They're teenagers now, but in the future, they have powers, and they will try to destroy me. I came from nothing, less than nothing. I will not give up everything I've built and have my life cut short."
―Ezekiel Sims to Amaria[src]

Ezekiel Sims was the former bodyguard of Constance Webb at the Peruvian Amazon Camp, who betrayed his team in order to obtain an Amazonian Spider from Las Arañas; that could grant spider powers and abilities. 30 years later, Sims possessed the power he desired, however he was also cursed with nightmares of his death at the hands of a group of spider-women, stealing his spider. In order to avoid this future, Sims intended to kill these women before they had the power to kill him; the only obstacle in his path being the mysterious Cassandra Webb.

Starving Family[]

"I've been searching for that spider for years."
"No, don't... we could save so many people."
"Not interested in helping people. No one helped me when my family was starving. My road was not as clear as yours. We didn't have the same choices."
―Ezekiel Sims and Constance Webb[src]

Ezekiel Sims grew up in poverty, developing a selfish personality, as well as a strong instinct for self-preservation, which became his primary motivation in his pursuit of power. Sims spent his years investigating and trying to find a powerful spider's venom with regenerative properties, which was connected to a native tribe of Spider-People from Peruvian folklore, known as "Las Arañas", that gained incredible strength and abilities from the spider's venom.[1]

Ambush at Peruvian Amazon Camp[]

In 1973, Sims agreed to protect Constance Webb during a research trip involving spiders in the Amazon Rainforest in Peru. Sims, along with a team, accompanied Constance to explore evidence of spiders in the local habitat. Investigating a web, Sims tried to help Constance when she showed signs of distress, and recommended that she leave this job. Constance appreciated Sims help, and when she was no longer in distress, Sims left Constance with her research and returned to the camp to locate and examine Constance's research, taking photos of Webb's notes.

His snooping was interrupted by Webb, who had brought a spider back to her camp, showing it to the rest of her team; having found what they were looking for. Sims approached and traitorously shot two of the members of the research team, threatening Webb so that she would give him the spider. Webb tried to plead with Sims, suggesting that the spider would serve the greater good, however Sims argued that no one helped him in his childhood. Struggling with Webb, Sims accidentally shot her and took the spider. After grabbing the spider, Sims felt the ground and trees started shaking, causing him to run from the forest after feeling Las Arañas' presence.[1]

Cursed by Las Arañas[]

In 2003, 30 years after absconding with the spider from Peru, Sims had obtained the monetary power he desired, and amassed considerable wealth and connections, however, he had also been cursed with diabolical visions of his death by Las Arañas. In these visions of 2013, 10 years from his present day, Sims awoke, horrified to discover that his sacred spider had been stolen.

Frantic and in a panic, Sims was suddenly ambushed by three super-powered young women with powers similar to his own, as well as advanced technology and special suits. After a brief struggle with Spider-Girl, Sims was rapidly overwhelmed and hurled around his penthouse, before being kicked out of his own window by one of his attackers, causing him to fall to his death. Sims would experience this vision, and therefore his death, every night without fail, eroding his sanity and determined to avoid it at any cost.[1]

Obtaining NSA Technology[]

Sims sees someone of interest

"Can you imagine how frustrating it's been? trying to identify someone I've only seen in a vision? But as the years pass, there have been technological advances. New ways to find people, if you know their faces. The kind of technology I've heard the National Security Agency has been pursuing."
―Ezekiel Sims to Agent 9723476527[src]

Waiting for the perfect moment, Sims stalked NSA Agent 9723476527's routine, eyeing the facial recognition system that they were pursuing. To implement his plan, Sims donned an expensive attire in order to attend an Opera House; affording him the opportunity to sit beside the NSA agent. Sims saw a booklet from the NSA agent and returned it to her, giving the agent a smile, and seductively flirting with her.

Post Coitus Nightmare

Later, Sims invited the woman to his apartment as a date; the agent complimented the apartment and kissed Sims. After their intimate encounter, Sims tried to sleep but was once again haunted by visions of his death, causing him to rise abruptly. The woman deduced that it was a nightmare, to which he affirms he is going to die. Sims spoke in detail about his visions; referring to the same three faces hunting him.

The woman tried to calm him by saying that all of us are going to die eventually, to which Sims responded with a rhetorical question about being able to stop his assailants, trying to justify his desperation and intention to kill them. Sims changed the topic of conversation to software systems used to find people, hinting that he knows what technology NSA is using. Believing her life was in danger, the agent decided to kill Sims before he had a chance to kill her.

NSA Agent Death

The NSA agent tried to grab the pistol from her bag, however Sims noticed, and quickly dashed across the room and grabbed the agent’s hand before she could reach her firearm. Sims used his powers to poison the agent, coercing the NSA Systems password in exchange for her life. She begged for mercy, but as the poison spread, the agent relented and gave Sims the password, expecting to survive. Reposing her head on the pillow, Sims whispered in her ear that she was better off without knowing about her death, grabbing the NSA Agent Card to join the system from his computer.[1]

Some time after killing the NSA Agent, Sims played with the spider he stole whilst waiting for Amaria, an unscrupulous hacker he hired, to run proprietary tracking software that could track every camera in New York City, scan and match facial structures, as well as make recreations of these with masked people.

Amaria informs Sims of the danger this system would pose if it fell into the wrong hands, but Sims reassured her that he just wanted to know the identity of those three girls. The recreation of the faces were very young by that moment, making her wonder why they were hunting teenagers, but Sims, steadfast in his belief, argued that in the future they were going to kill him and destroy his legacy. Amaria tried to swap subject by indirectly saying that they were normal people, but Sims insisted that she continue doing his job.[1]

The next day, Sims was outside Grand Central Station incovert, with a earphone to comunicate with Amaria. Amaria founded the unknown trio inside the building, questioning how its possible, to which Sims responded that this confirmed his theory; he believed this convergence was no coincidence, and the girls were going to have a connection.

After entering to the station, Sims took the train to find the girls, but when he entered the wagon he noticed a mysterious woman had taken the trio off of the train. Sims started running and donned his suit, inspired by Las Arañas, to hunt the trio. Sims exited the train and started to crawl along the celling. The mysterious woman took the trio to another train, which forced Sims to get on top of the train, causing disturbances in the wagon lights.

Sims quickly subdued and killed the officers, however as three other cops went to stop Sims, this gave the trio an opportunity to exit the station.

Having lost sight of the girls, Sims fled to a building terrace so that he could scout the area. Confused, Sims asked Amaria how they managed to escaped, and were seemingly aware of his presence. Amaria told Sims that they went through an area without cameras, angered, Sims informed Amaria of how hard it was to obtain this technology, and that she needed to use this system in a better way.[1]

As nightfall dawned, Amaria informed Sims of the location of the girls; 4 Star Diner. Sims leaped down from the building, landing on a scaffold in an alley. Sims repeated the information and entered his car while intercepting police dispatch relay, tricking them by saying it was a false alarm.

Enraged and bewildered, Sims composed himself, exited the diner and contacted Amaria, demanding to know how his opponents were somehow aware of his manoeuvres ahead of time, to which she had no answer. She did however give him the identity of the woman helping the girls; Cassandra Webb, daughter of Constance Webb, leaving Sims shocked.[1]

Later that night, whilst brooding in solitude, Sims felt an extraordinarily powerful mind connect to his own; realising that Cassie had subconsciously reached out to him. Webb asked him why he was so set upon killing the girls, and Sims explained how the presence of the girls would affect him in the future, believing that she would understand and take the opportunity to walk away back to her own life, but Cassie steadfastly refused to allow him to harm the girls and ended their connection.[1]

One Week Later[]

Another week went by as Sims and Amaria searched relentlessly for the girls, without success, causing Sims to cast recriminations against Amaria, threatening her with the same fate he had planned for the girls. However, Sims was alerted by Amaria to the whereabouts of Mattie Franklin, who was with the other girls, Ben Parker and his sister-in-law Mary, who was on the verge of giving birth.

As Ben Parker, Mary Parker and the girls raced through the city, en-route to the hospital, Sims donned his suit and exited his penthouse; traversing across the sides of buildings, before landing on a sign and waiting to intercept and trap the car. Jumping on the vehicle, Sims prepared to blow it up with a hand grenade, until he was foiled yet again by Cassie, who ran him down with an ambulance and drove off with the girls, leading him away from Ben and Mary.

Sims recklessly pursued the ambulance throughout the city, jumping on top of speeding cars, trying to reach the roof of the ambulance. However, as he landed on top of the ambulance, an electrical charge stunned him and launched him into a car, breaking the window. Eventually the ambulance came to a stop under a bridge, and the quartet fled into a disused fireworks warehouse nearby, with Sims following them.[1]

Appointment with Death[]

Sims pursued the quartet into the bottling plant, determined to end their lives, but unbeknownst to him, Webb was in fact leading him into a trap. As they ran through the warehouse, the group set off flares and threw them all around the hall. As Sims closed in, suddenly the entire warehouse erupted in explosions as the flares ignited the fireworks and sent them flying in all directions, including at Sims himself who was struck by several of them.

Driven to the brink of complete madness, Sims burst through the ceiling onto the roof where his quarry had fled to await a rescue helicopter. Using an errant firework, Sims destroyed the helicopter and quickly overpowered Webb, easily fending off attacks from the three girls, whilst taunting Webb about her mother's death. As the bottling plant collapsed around them, the girls were left literally hanging on for dear life; Sims used this to taunt Cassie further, remarking that she would never be able to save them all.

In his haste however, Sims was unaware that Webb had unlocked the full potential of her powers; using her connection to the Web of Life, Cassandra was able to astral-project three different versions of herself and guide the three girls to safety. With his plan being a failure, Sims snapped and struck Webb, sending her flying towards the edge of the building. As he moved to finish her off, Sims taunted Webb by saying that she was just like her mother. However, Sims had failed to realise that Webb had foreseen what was to come, and was too late to stop her from baiting him into position; enabling a pile of debris to fall on him and pin him down.

As he furiously struggled to free himself, Webb declared that Sims' true destiny was never to die at the hands of the three girls, and the true architect of his downfall was her. His fate sealed, Sims saw the truth of her words, for in that moment, the warehouse fully collapsed, sending Sims over the side and falling to the ground below. Despite surviving the fall, Sims could only look up to see more debris hurtling down before the letter "P" from the sign fell on him and crushed his body, ending his reign of terror and securing the futures of the three girls and their mentor.[1]

Personality[]

"His motives were selfish. He used your mom to find us. But, because he stole the spider, he was cursed. And he's been trying to outrun his destiny ever since."
Santiago to Cassie Webb[src]

Ezekiel Sims was violent, aggressive and power hungry; he seemed to believe that obtaining power would afford him the wealth and security that he did not possess during childhood. In his pursuit of power, Ezekiel killed several people he was acquainted with, all whilst showing no remorse for their murder; suggesting he is willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants.

Sims was also highly driven by a sense of self-preservation; after years of being haunted by visions of his murder, Sims set out to find and kill the people responsible for his forthcoming death. In this pursuit, Sims killed more than a dozen people, and left a trail of destruction in his wake; suggesting he has no regard for the life of others.

"If you knew what I knew, you'd do the same thing."
―Ezekiel Sims to Cassandra Webb[src]

Diabolical Prescience: Sims was haunted by visions of his death; seeing the people he believed would be responsible for his demise. As these visions were a curse, the exact cause of his death was obscured; hiding the involvement of Cassandra Webb.
