On April 25, 2022, a movie based on the Marvel Comics character El Muerto was announced during CinemaCon presentation, with Bad Bunny announced to play the title role.^[4]

On October 4, 2022, TheWrap reported that Jonás Cuarón had signed on to direct with Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer writing the script.^[1]

In June 2023, it was reported that Bad Bunny had departed the project due to his music schedule and commitment to WWE.^[5]^[2]^[6]

In December 2024, it was reported that Kraven the Hunter would be the final film in the SSU, leaving it unknown the fate of El Muerto and whether or not it will be repurposed into a standalone project.
