- In the comics, Otto Octavius was an MIT graduate who suffered from guilt after the death of his mother. Having created four mechanical limbs, he caused a lab accident which left him with permanent brain damage, turning him into the criminal Doctor Octopus. Octavius was also the founder of Spider-Man's recurrent group of enemies, the Sinister Six alongside Vulture and Kraven the Hunter. In a later arc, Octavius successfully takes over Spider-Man's body but would be inspired to strive to become a better hero than Spider-Man ever was, becoming known as the Superior Spider-Man and later Superior Octopus.
