Artificial Blood is a form of synthetic blood plasm created by Dr. Michael Morbius.

History[]

Dr. Michael Morbius founded Horizon Labs and began researching ways to cure his rare blood disease. While searching for a cure, he developed Artificial Blood. Dr. Morbius’ creation was not able to cure him, but it became a major medical breakthrough. Medical practitioners began using the synthetic blood plasm in transfusions and it would save more lives than Penicillin. Simon Stroud received a transfusion of that synthetic blood that saved his right arm when he was wounded while serving in Afghanistan. The creation of Artificial Blood made Morbius a world-famous scientist and he was awarded a Nobel Prize for his work. Morbius, however, rejected the Nobel Prize because the benefits of the Artificial Blood were an unintended benefit of a failed experiment.

After Morbius turned himself into a vampire-like being, he used Artificial Blood to sustain himself rather than drink human blood. At first, the blood kept him fed for six hours, but it soon dropped to four hours. Morbius quickly realized that he could not feed on Artificial Blood for much longer since it was losing its potency, requiring him to feed off actual blood.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Due to its bluish coloration, Artificial Blood is referred to as "Blue", as opposed to natural blood which is referred to as "Red".
